27/52 Bridges

More images from my Thames walk last week. This time, some details from bridges. London is a city peppered with bridges, not just over the Thames either; there are pedestrian walkways, myriad train and vehicle bridges and the odd bridge linking one building to another.

Walking along the Thames path the other day, I noticed the beautiful colour scheme on Southwark bridge. I love the pale turquoise and yellow paint, and it seems such a pretty choice for such a functional piece of engineering. The structure itself is rather lovely too, although it’s a massive piece of riveted steel (I assume), it manages to look quite delicate. I like the patterns made by the rivets and the consecutive arches.

The next shot is part of a modern footbridge. Again, I liked the patterns and the detail of the metal mesh.
